Milan's Resurgence?

Today i saw mighty Milan humble the lowly Siena , with Ronaldinho (in particular) bordering on the spectacular.

Now a 4-0 victory over any side is worth commending , it sure is.But when the defeated side ,in question, is the one which almost knocked the league champions of their pedestal a week ago , then i believe one has to stand up and take notice. Moreover ,this Milan side is the same side that was facing derision and ridicule at the start of the season , for their combined age of "400 million years" and their inability to play brisk attacking football .Things sure have taken a turn , a turn for the better if you are a Milan fan.Milan , presently, are at the 2nd spot in Serie A and have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League , which is pretty good considering the kind of results we had come to accept as norm during the pre-season.Things definitely do look bright presently with Ronaldinho in sublime form of late, not to mention the best center-back partnership of all the teams that Milan can boast of , atleast in the Serie A.Though it is evident that Milan needs a full back preferably a right sided one , yet the void does provide an opportunity to the young Ignazio Abate to hone his skills and shine. With the acquisition of Dominic Adiyiah , the Milan board have shown that they want to build a team for the future and that is commendable -- i believe downright necessary. Many other players who have stepped up to be counted deserve praise , for example Luca Antonini has provided much needed agility down his flank , Seerdorf has immediately filled the void left behind by Kaka , and Borricello has been the Target Man that Milan needed.

Now all of this provides a pretty rosy picture of the conditions at Diavoli , and i must stress that there are things which if not taken care of would push Milan down the proverbial Drain. There is no dearth of reasons to question the capability of the players at The Rossoneri's disposal to perform at this level in the future.Milan's side is ageing and many of the players are past their prime.Already Gennaro Gattuso looks a shadow of his former self , he has definitely lost a meter or two of his pace which is very necessary for an "Anchor Man" . Nesta , though still a World -Class center-back , has cut a sorry figure not in terms of his performances(which have been terrific mind you) but rather in terms of the class that he no longer brings to the table , gone are the days of the heavenly "Sliding Tackle" which made many a striker sweat with anxiety and desperation. We don't have the Filippo "The Eternal Poacher" Inzaghi playing at the same level that he did.And last but not the least we don't have any Paolo Maldini in our Team , that in itself should be enough as a testament to the fact that this team needs rebuilding.

If Milan directors don't invest wisely in young and talented players and build a team for the future , they can rest assured that this success would pass away before they can say "I" and the Rossoneri would be living the results of the pre-season in the Serie A and Elsewhere.

Hope this does not happen , but if this wave of austerity at Milan does not end , we can probably forget about the former glory days of the "Most Successful Club in the World".
